Prof T.E. Tay recently visited Boeing in Seattle, U.S.A. to discuss
ongoing research collaboration between the Department of Mechanical
Engineering, Boeing and Stanford University. The project aims to address
critical issues in new-generation composite airframes such as
durability, damage progression modeling, and cost and weight reduction.
As the principal investigator, Prof Tay has developed a novel
progressive damage modeling methodology for the analysis of light-weight
composite aircraft structures. The collaboration has produced the first
joint NUS-Boeing article in a top composite materials journal.
