Introduction
The Manufacturing Group has 14 academic
faculty members, and 1 professional officer.
Teaching and
research in the Manufacturing Group concern processes, techniques and systems for
the design and manufacture of goods. Undergraduate modules taught by the
Manufacturing Group academic faculty members comprise topics on rapid product
modeling and realization, design and manufacturing practices, design for
manufacture and assembly, machining modeling, materials and
processes in manufacturing, tool engineering, and manufacturing
automation. The Manufacturing Group also offers graduate modules on metal forming,
machining technology, geometric modeling, rapid response manufacturing and manufacturing systems
engineering.
The areas of expertise and research of academic
faculty members in the Manufacturing Group include computer-aided design (CAD),
computer-aided manufacture (CAM), computer-aided process planning
(CAPP), computer-aided fixture design, rapid prototyping and
manufacturing (RP&M), metal forming and cutting, design of machine
tools, non-traditional machining, integration of automated manufacturing
systems, flexible manufacturing systems (FMS), micro and nana machining, and modeling and
optimization of processes and manufacturing systems.
