1. Introduction
A/Prof. Chau obtained his BSc (Eng) degree in 1974 and PhD degree in 1978 from the University of Nottingham, UK. He worked for a few years with a research laboratory of Unilever, UK, mainly on the design and development of high speed packaging machines.
He is a member of the executive committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (Singapore Chapter). He is the Chairman of the Technical Committee of Use in SI Units and a member of the Mechanical Standards Committee, Standards Council.
2. Research Interest
His present research interests include:
- Experimental and numerical stress analysis
- Brittle materials (ceramics)
- Non-destructive testing
