1.  Introduction

Fu Yu obtained his B. Eng.degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in 1991.  He was a Mechanical Engineer at Shanghai Investigation and Design Institute prior to his being awarded a Research Scholarship to undertake his M.Eng. degree programme in optical nondestructive testing at the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, National University of Singapore. He obtained his M. Eng degree in 1998 and presently appointed as Professional Officer in Mechanics of Solid Group, Applied Mechanics Division.
