Wong Y.S. is Head, Manufacturing Division, and Director, Laboratory for Concurrent
Engineering and Logistics, National University of Singapore (N.U.S.). He is registered as a
Professional Engineer (Singapore) in 1991. After his B.Eng. he worked at the Singapore Insitute of Standards and
Industrial Research (S.I.S.I.R.), now called the Productivity and Standards
Board (P.S.B.), where he was involved in the design and development of
special-purpose automated machines for manufacturing and quality control for
both SMEs and MNCs of the local industry.
He left S.I.S.I.R. to pursue M.Eng. at NUS and Ph.D. at U.M.I.S.T. (U.K.)
and returned to serve N.U.S. after completing his Ph.D.
His teaching and research interests are in
machining characterization, modeling, monitoring, control and optimization;
product data capture, prototyping, design and manufacture; and automated and
integrated manufacturing system modeling and design. In these areas, he has published more than 130 papers in refereed
journals and international conferences and contributed to books, and
participated in several local and overseas funded projects. Y.S. Wong has played
a major or leading role in the setting up of the joint EE-ME Mechatronics (M.Sc.)
course, the Architecture-Business-Engineering Industrial Design (B.A.) course,
the Laboratory for Concurrent Engineering and Logistics, and the NUS-GT (Georgia
Tech) Logistics Institute. He
continues to be involved as a consultant in the design of automated machines and
equipment for the local industry, and has also taught specially organised
courses on manufacturing automation to engineers in Singapore and overseas.
